SANDERSON NAMED AS NEW WOMEN'S TENNIS ASSISTANT COACH

DevKristin Sanderson has been named the assistant coach for the University of Minnesota women's tennis team, head coach Tyler Thomson announced today.< p> Sanderson, a former member of the Duke Blue Devils women's tennis team, helped lead the team to four straight NCAA national semifinal matches. In 1998, Duke went to the finals and finished second in the nation, when Sanderson was a junior. While at Duke, Sanderson played the #2 singles position and earned an Atlantic Coast Conference Flight 2 singles championship in 1998. Sanderson, a Blue Devil team captain, was a three-time All-ACC selection in 1996, 1998 and 1999 and finished her career ranked 36th nationally in singles competition. Sanderson captured a career record of 112-56 and is tied for 19th in school history for most singles wins in a season with 35 and tied for second with the most ACC singles wins at 26.
Prior to playing at Duke, Sanderson held a top 10 USTA national ranking for six consecutive years and was a 1995 Florida State High School tennis champion.
After playing for four years for Duke, Sanderson has coached and traveled with numerous nationally-ranked junior players.
"Kristin's experience as a top collegiate player and her genuine enthusiasm for the future of Minnesota women's tennis will tremendously add to our team and our goals," Thomson said.
Sanderson is scheduled to start after the Christmas break in January. The women's tennis team resumes action Jan. 25-26 as the Golden Gophers host the Minnesota Court Classic.
