GOLDEN GOPHERS DOWN NEBRASKA 81-72

The Minnesota Golden Gophers upped their record to 7-3 with an 81-72 victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers Saturday night at Williams Arena in front of 13,435 fans.

Minnesota was led by senior Dusty Rychart's 18 points and nine rebounds. Rychart scored 15 of his game-high total in the second half, while Michael Bauer (15) and Rick Rickert</ a> (14) also scored in double-figures.

Bauer led Minnesota with 13 first-half points, pacing the Golden Gophers to a 38-30 advantage. Minnesota never trailed in the second half despite an outstanding effort by Nebraska.

Minnesota led by as many as 13 points in the second half, following a Rickert basket with 6:40 remainng. Nebraska went on a 16-5 run over the next four minutes to pull within a basket, but that was all the closer the Golden Gophers would allow.

A three-point play by Kevin Burleson, followed a jumper by Rychart with 1:02 remaining, put the Golden Gophers ahead 77-70. Travarus Bennett and Rychart made four consecutive free-throws to seal the game.

The Golden Gophers next travel to Texas Tech on Dec. 30. The game will be televised on Victory Sports Network/Channel 45 at 3:15 p.m.
