RIDDLE AND HAUSER HONORED AS WCHA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

2/19/2001 12:00:00 AM | Athletics

Defens Freshman forward Troy Riddle and junior goaltender Adam Hauser have been named WCHA Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for their efforts in last weekend's sweep of Colorado College. With the sweep, the Golden Gophers extended their winning streak to nine games and have moved to within three points of first-place North Dakota.

Riddle, a native of Minneapolis, led the Golden Gophers offensively against the Tigers. In a series that featured four of the top five freshmen scorers in the league, Troy Riddle had three goals and an assist in the two games. In Friday's 6-1 win, he got the Golden Gophers out on top early with his goal just 3:42 into the game. Just over two minutes later, he assisted on Aaron Miskovich's game-winning, power- play goal. In Saturday's 4-1 victory, he scored a pair of goals, including the first one of the game in the first period.

Hauser, a native of Bovey, Minn., continued the best streak of his career as he shut down the potent Colorado College offense. For the weekend, he stopped 50-of-52 shots against the Tigers, a team that entered the weekend averaging 3.82 goals per contest. In Friday's 6-1 win, he stopped 29-of-30 shots and helped hold the league's second-best power-play unit scoreless on seven opportunities. On Saturday, he brushed aside 21-of-22 shots as he earned his eighth straight victory by a 4-1 margin. Hauser moved into third place all-time in career wins with 57 and is the school's all-time leader in games and minutes played, saves and shutouts. He has allowed just 11 goals over the past eight games.

This is the second Rookie of the Week honor for Riddle in the past three weeks, while Hauser earns the award for the third time this season.

The Golden Gophers travel to Duluth this weekend to face UMD. Minnesota closes out the regular season with a home and home series with St. Cloud State.
