GOPHERS FINISH SEASON WITH HEARTBREAKER

tThe Golden Gopher men's basketball team ended their season with a heartbreaking 76-73 loss to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at Williams Arena Monday night. Despite overcoming a 18-point deficit to take the lead in overtime, Minnesota was not able to advance and continue their season.

Minnesota finished the first half down by only six, 32-26, despite shooting only 29 percent from the field. Senior Terrance Simmons score 18 of his team-high 28 in the first half.

Tulsa went on a run in the second half, building a 49-31 lead with 13:15 to go. But in the fashion Gopher fans have come to know this season, the home team fought back. Down by 17 with 8:47 remaining in the game, the Golden Gophers went on a 18-2 run, leaving them down by only one with 3:14 to go. The Gophers never gained the lead in regulation, but kept the Hurricane within one and tied the game twice, ending in a 65-65 deadlock.

Minnesota took their first lead of the game, 73-72, with 1:17 to go in the game, but would not score again. Tulsa took the one-point lead on an entry pass, and sealed their win with two free throws with two ticks left on the clock.

Seniors John-Blair Bickerstaff and Terrance Simmons shared a hug with the crowd chanting their names after cheering their last "Rouser" at the "Barn". The crowd cheered as long-time Golden Gopher basketball and football voice, Ray Christensen, signed off for the last time.
