MINNESOTA WINS TWO GAMES AT BOILERMAKER INVITATIONAL

In the opener, Minnesota built a 4-1 lead in the first four innings and held to defeat the Ramblers. Shelly Nichols singled in a run in the first inning and hit her second home run of the season in the third inning to give Minnesota a 2-0 lead. Loyola scored in the bottom of the third inning to cut the lead to 2-1, but Minnesota scored two fourth- inning runs on two Loyola errors and a passed ball to create the 4-1 lead. The Ramblers scored two unearned runs in the sixth inning, but Piper Marten worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning to finish the game. Angie Recknor pitched the first five innings to pick up the win.
In the second game, Minnesota scored in five of six innings to defeat the Rockets. Four different Gophers had two hits, and Tammi Hays scored three runs to lead the Minnesota offense. Hailee Nanchy drove in three runs with a second-inning double. Marten struck out 12 batters in six innings and earned her 12th win of the season.
Minnesota will finish play in the Boilermaker Invitational on Sunday with a pair of games. The Gophers will finish pool play with a game against Butler at 9 a.m. (EST) and will play a bracket game at 1 or 3 p.m. (EST).
