WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD EXPLODES INTO OUTDOOR SEASON

Minnesota runners, junior Victoria Moses (New Brighton, Minn./ Irondale), senior Elaine Eggleston (Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) and junior Crystal Glenn (Yacolt, Wash./Battle Ground) placed one, two and three in the 3,000 steeplechase, an event that was added this year. Moses and Eggleston's performances were both provisional-qualifying times for the NCAA National Championships.
Sophomore Shani Marks (Apply Valley, Minn./Apple Valley) won the 400 low hurdles with a time of 1:02.03, placing her seventh on the top performers list. Marks, along with junior Jessica Shuster (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Washburn), junior Amber Day (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) and first year student Jessica Mittelstadt (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West), won the 4x400 relay, running 3:44.66. Shuster, also, won the 800, running a time of 2:10.59, a fifth place spot on the top performers list. In addition, Day set a personal record in the 200 with a time of 24.83, good enough to place her eighth on the school's top performers list.
In the field, Minnesota throwers dominated the competition. Senior Angie Hill (Poplar Bluff, Mo./Poplar Bluff) placed first in the hammer throw with a career high throw of178-01. Senior shot put expert, Aubrey Schmitt (Hastings, Minn./Hastings), won the competition, throwing 49-8 1/4. Senior Brenda Meyer (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) captured first place in the discus, tossing 156-0.
The Gophers next compete at the Carleton Invitational on Saturday, March 31 at Northfield, Minn.
