MINNESOTA LOSES CONFERENCE MATCH TO TOUGH NORTHWESTERN TEAM

The Minnesota women's tennis team lost 6-1 to the Northwestern Wildcats on Friday afternoon. Minnesota falls to 11-5 on the season and 3-4 in the Big Ten. The Gophers fought hard against a tough Northwestern team, who is leading the Big Ten in standings and is also ranked No. 10 nationally. This was the first outdoor match the Gophers have hosted this season.

In doubles play, Minnesota just couldn't catch a break as Northwestern won all three matches, along with the doubles point.

As for the singles side, Minnesota's lone point came from No. 2 Amy Thomas who defeated nationally ranked singles player Lia Jackson. Thomas won the match 6-0, 2-6, (10-4). She improves to 12-13 on the season.

The Gophers host Illinois on Sunday, April 15 at 10 a.m.
