WOMEN'S TENNIS DROPS BIG TEN MATCH AT INDIANA

After winning six matches in a row, the Gophers win streak was put to an end by the Hoosiers. For the first time in matches, the Gophers didn't win the doubles point. On the doubles side, the No. 1 team of Michaela Havelkova and Valerie Vladea lost 8-5 to Kelly Blanch and Jessica Levin. The loss drops their doubles record to 11-3 on the season. In the next match, Tammy Wang and Jennifer Howard went on to defeat Linda Tran and Karie Schlukebir 8-4 in the No. 2 position. However, the Hoosiers ccaptured the doubles point by winning at the No. 3 spot. Indiana's Amanda Field and Jennifer Hsia defeated Amy Thomas and Brandi Watts 8- 6.
As for the singles side, Vladea suffered a loss in the No. 1 position to Kelly Blanch 6-4, 6-4. At No. 2, Thomas was the lone scorer for the Gophers. She defeated Amanda Field 6-2, 6-2 and improved her record to 8-6 on the singles side in spring season play. Havelkova, playing the No. 3 spot, lost to Tran 6-1, 6-0. Wang managed to force Levin to three sets, but it wasn't enough as Levin went on to win the No. 4 spot 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. Howard lost to Schlukebir in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 5 position. Finally, Watts was the only other player besides Wang to force her match to three sets but she came up short. Watts lost to Grimm 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 at the No. 6 spot.
Minnesota heads to Purdue on Sunday for another conference match. Start time for the match is 11 a.m.
