ROSE WINS THIRD PLACE AT UNLV WOMEN'S TENNIS TOURNAMENT

Andrea Rose (North Vancouver, British Columbia/Handsworth) was the lone winner for the Gophers today at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev. The tournament ended today with Rose bringing home a third place finish in Flight Three singles.

Rose faced Amber Elliot from Oklahoma State in today's action and ended strong by winning her match in straight sets with scores of 6-2, 6-4.

Valerie Vladea (Kitchener, Ontario/Burlington Central) and Brandi Watts (Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer) both brought home fourth place finishes for the weekend. In Flight One competition, Vladea lost to hometown favorite Pauline Janus of UNLV. Vladea won the first set, but Janus came back and won the next two to end the match. She lost 3-6, 6-3, 6- 2. Watts was matched up against LSU's Amanda Mang and lost 7-6, 6-2, in Flight Two singles.

Amy Thomas (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) finished in sixth place in Flight One singles. Thomas was paired up against Dominika Olszweska of Oklahoma State. Olszewska won the match by default.

Next up, the Gophers head to Houston, Texas, to compete in the Rice Invitational on Oct. 5-7.
