ONG NAMED BIG TEN SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

MMinnesota swimmer Allen Ong has been named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week. Ong enjoyed first-place finishes in four events to help lead sixth-ranked Minnesota to decisive victories over UNLV (94-45) and Hawaii (87-49) at the Hawaii Dual on Saturday. The junior took two first-place finishes clocking a 1:20.54 in the 50-yard freestyle and a 45.06 in the 100-yard freestyle. Ong also anchored the 400-yard medley (3:19.51) and 400-yard freestyle relays (3:01.75).

Ong, a native of Ipoh, Malaysia, has swam on four All-American Golden Gopher relay teams and is a member of the 200-meter freestyle school record relay. Ong joins Jeff Hackler (Dec. 3) and Todd Smolinski (Nov. 20) as Minnesota swimmers to have earned conference weekly honors this season.
