The University of Minnesota women's soccer team defeated non- conference foe Drake, 2-1, today at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium, snapping its school-record four-match losing streak. On Senior Day, senior forward Ginny Jorde, in her first start as a Golden Gopher and in her last home match of her career, scored Minnesota's first goal. Junior forward Rachael Roth talled the game-winner.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Maroon and Gold out-shoot Drake, 7-5, the Golden Gophers notched two goals in the second half to extend Minnesota's non-conference unbeaten streak to six matches. Jorde struck first at the 51:14 mark, capitalizing during a scramble in front of the Bulldog net. Jorde shot twice with Drake goalkeeper Kate Stack making the saves, but Jorde's final shot attempt squeaked over the goal line. The unassisted marker was Jorde's first goal and first points as a Golden Gopher. She was seeing action in only her third game of the season.

Roth tallied the eventual game-winner in the 70th minute for her team- leading 11th goal of the season. Roth took a feed from midfielder Anna Nudell Lee and beat Stack with a nifty sharp-angle shot. The marker was Roth's team-leading fourth game-winner of the season. The goal pushed her season point total to 26. It's the most points scored by a Golden Gopher since Nicole Lee tallied 26 during the 1999 season. In addition, the goal moved Roth into sole possesion of ninth place on Minnesota's career goals list with 19.

The Bulldogs rallied in the 75th minute as Lindsey Portincaso beat Minnesota goalkeeper Karli Kopietz to make the score 2-1. Andrea Schmitz lofted a corner kick into the UM penalty area, Kristin Underwood played the ball to Potincaso who found the back of the Minnesota net.

Minnesota shut down the Drake attack from there and out-shot the Bulldogs 15-5 for the half. For the game, the Golden Gophers out-shot DU 22-10, including a 12-7 shots-on-goal advantage. It was a cleanly- played game with the two teams combining for only 16 fouls. Kopietz gained the win for the Maroon and Gold, improving to 7-7-0 for the season.

The Golden Gophers finish the season at 19th-ranked Denver on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m.
