Minnesota Volleyball Signs Kelly Bowman for Early Signing Period

NoThe Minnesota volleyball team has signed Kelly Bowman to a national letter of intent for the early signing period according to an announcement made by Minnesota head coach Mike Hebert on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Bowman will be eligible to compete for the Golden Gophers in the 2003 season.

Bowman is a 5-11 setter from Osseo High School in Maple Grove, Minn. She was named the 2001 and 2002 Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year. Bowman was also named the 2001 Pioneer Press Player of the Year, 2001 Gatorade Minnesota Player of the Year and to the 2002 Pioneer Press All-State Team.

She was selected as the fourth best high school senior in the nation on the Student Sports "Hot 100" list. Bowman was also a 2001 Honorable Mention All-American and a 2002 Mid-Season All-American.

In 2002, she was the A-2 Junior National Team MVP for USA Volleyball. Bowman was also a member of the Youth National Team in 2001. She was named an 18-Open All-American in club volleyball in 2002. Bowman also received 16-Club All-American honors for club volleyball in 2000.

"Kelly (Bowman) is a complete player who can do anything on the court and has an advanced feel for the game for someone her age," said Hebert. "She could probably be a standout at any spot on the floor. Kelly (Bowman) will certainly increase our volleyball intelligence when she plays at Minnesota."
