The Gophers got on the board early when Ronda Curtin scored a power- play goal at 6:10 of the first period. The play started when Noelle Sutton won the faceoff to La Toya Clarke. After receiving the faceoff from Sutton, Clarke passed the puck to Curtin at the point. It was Curtin's third goal of the season.
Minnesota added two goals in the second. Kristy Oonincx scored at 2:08, while Noelle Sutton notched a goal at 4:51, a span of 2:38 between each other.
The Beavers tallied a power-play goal of their own at 17:20 of the third, but Minnesota put the game back to a three-deficit 42 seconds later. Oonincx netted her second goal of the night with the assists coming from Clarke and Allie Sanchez. It was the third assist for Clarke and the second for Sanchez. The Gophers' first line of Oonincx, Clarke and Sanchez totalled seven points on the night.
Minnesota is missing four of its top players due to the Four Nations Cup in Kitchener, Ont.; Winny Brodt, Natalie Darwitz, Kelly Stephens and Krissy Wendell.
"It was a big win especially with the fact that we were missing players," Gopher coach Laura Halldorson. "I was happy to see the team really respond and meet the challenge.
"This year we have more talent than we ever had. The fact that we could lose four players and still beat Bemidji State says a lot about our depth and character."
Jody Horak had 22 saves in the game, notching her eighth win of the season, sitting at 8-0-0. She is now 22-2-2 in her career.
