FridaySophomore Travis Weber stopped 31 shots as he collected his first career shutout as Minnesota defeated Wisconsin 3-0 on Friday night. The two teams meet for the rematch in Madison on Saturday night.

The two teams played a scoreless first period as Minnesota outshot Wisconsin 13-9. The Golden Gophers had several chances on a 4 on 3 but could not capitalize against the Badgers' Scott Kabotoff.

With Peter Kennedy in the penalty box for holding, Nick Anthony picked up the puck and brought it into the Wisconsin on a 3 on 2. He fed it to the trailing Chris Harrington who winded up and connected for his first career shorthanded tally. Minnesota increased the lead to 2-0 as Matt DeMarchi's centering pass found Gino Guyer who scored on the one-timer.

Wisconsin managed 13 shots on goal in the final period, but could not solve Weber. With less than two minutes to play, Minnesota went on the power-play and Kabotoff was unable to glove Dan Welch's wrister. It was Welch's fifth goal of the season.

Weber stopped 31 shots in the shutout as Minnesota improved to 5-2-2 in the WCHA and 8-4-4 overall. The Golden Gophers will go for their first sweep in Madison since 1998.

Coming off a loss last Sunday against Michigan, the Golden Gopher victory broke the school record for games without consecutive losses. It was Minnesota's 60th game without two straight losses which beat an 80 year old record.
