Women's Tennis Drops a 5-2 Decision to DePaul

thThe University of Minnesota women's tennis team hosted DePaul, dropping 5-2 to the Blue Demons tonight at the Northwest Athletic Club in Bloomington, Minn. Minnesota won the No. 1 and 2 singles for the two points. Minnesota is now 3-5 on the 2002 spring campaign.

The Gophers dropped two of the three doubles matches as DePaul gained the doubles point. Minnesota's Brandi Watts and Jennifer Howard notched an 8-3 win over DePaul's Karen Falduto and Rachel Dybas.

Minnesota started the singles category with two wins, but fell in the next four matches. Michaela Havelkova won at No. 1 singles, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 to gain her fifth win of the year at the top spot. Valerie Vladea earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over the Blue Demons' Marina Parashkevova. Senior co-captain Andrea Rose fell at No. 3 singles in two close sets, dropping 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5).

Next action for the Golden Gophers will be on Sunday, Feb. 17, as Minnesota hosts Colorado in nonconference action. The match is set for a 10 a.m. start at the Northwest Athletic Club in Bloomington, Minn.
