Women's Tennis Defeats S.E. Missouri 6-1

The University of Minnesota women's tennis team continued spring break action with a win over S.E. Missouri, 6-1 today in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The Gophers break a two-game skid, advancing them to 5-11 on the season.

The Gophers collected doubles points, sweeping the three spots. Valerie Vladea and Michaela Havelkova won the No. 1 doubles with an 8-5 win, while Kelly Perry and Andrea Rose topped the No. 2 slot with an 8-1 decision. S.E. Missouri defaulted the No. 3 singles.

Minnesota started the singles action strong when Vladea won, 6-1, 6-0 against Daniela Garcia. Havelkova also went 2-0 on the day, defeating Adrienne Bland, 6-1, 6-0. Rose won the No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1, while Perry claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory. The No. 6 singles match was also won by default.

The Gophers continue take a two-week hiatus from play, returning to competition, April 5 against Big Ten's Purdue. The match will be played at the Northwest Athletic Club in Bloomington, Minn.
