Football Kicks off Spring Practice Tuesday Night

Gibs The University of Minnesota football team begins its 2002 spring practice session Tuesday night in the Gibson-Nagurski indoor practice facility at 8:30 p.m. The first 20 minutes will be open for photo media only. Players and coaches will be available for comment following the conclusion of practice and a brief cooling off period. Spring practice will conclude with an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, April 20.

The Golden Gophers return 38 letterwinners, this season, including eight starters on defense and six starters on offense. The offense will center around junior quarterback and co-captain Asad Abdul-Khaliq, an eight game starter in 2001, including the final seven of the season. Senior co-captain Michael Lehan will be the leader on the defensive side of the ball. A two-plus season starter at cornerback, Lehan is a three-time letterwinner and All-Big Ten candidate in 2002.
