Wi Three former University of Minnesota football players were drafted Sunday in the National Football League Draft. Wide receiver Ron Johnson was drafted in the fourth round by the Baltimore Ravens, offensive lineman Matt Anderle was taken in the sixth round by the San Diego Chargers and Greg White was selected in the seventh round by the Houston Texans. Three other Golden Gophers signed free agent deals: running back Tellis Redmon with Baltimore, safety Jack Brewer with Minnesota and quarterback Travis Cole with Pittsburgh.

Some other draft facts.
In Glen Mason's five seasons (1998-2002), 11 Golden Gophers have been drafted by NFL teams. Compare that with the five seasons prior to Mason's arrival in Gold Country when only two Minnesota players were drafted - 1996 - Chris Darkins (Green Bay - 4th round); Craig Sauter (Atlanta - 6th round).
Minnesota has had seven draftees in the last two years, the most in a two-year span since 1990-91.
Johnson is the first wide receiver drafted since Ryan Thelwell in 1998 (San Francisco - 7th round).
Johnson is the first Golden Gopher to be taken by the Baltimore/ Cleveland franchise since 1979 (Jim Ronan - 6th round)
Anderle is the first Minnesota offensive tackle taken in the draft since Jon Melander in 1990 (New Orleans - 5th round).
Anderle is the first Gopher player ever taken by San Diego.
White is the first Gopher player to be taken by the expansion Houston Texans.
