Gopher Women's Tennis Falls to Purdue, 5-2

The University of Minnesota women's tennis team fell 5-2 to the No. 40 Purdue Boilermakers at the Northwest Athletic Club in Bloomington, Minn. The Golden Gophers gained wins in the No. 1 singles and No. 2 singles for the two points. Minnesota drops to 5-12 on the season and 0-6 in Big Ten play.

Minnesota started the match strong with an 8-1 win over Purdue's Wright and Gretchen Haynor. Michaela Havelkova and Valerie Vladea won their ninth doubles match of the season and a 4-2 mark in league action. However, the Gophers fell in the No. 2 and 3 doubles, giving Boilermakers a one-point advantage going into singles competition. Vladea one the No. 1 singles against Melissa Iqbal, 6-3, 6-4. It was her fifth conference win this season. Havelkova won the No. 2 singles over Haynor, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (10-5). Minnesota fell in the next four singles matches as the Boilermakers won the match. Andrea Rose lost in the third-set tiebreaker, 10-8 to Purdue's Melissa Woods.

The Gophers will host Big Ten's Indiana Sunday morning at the Northwest Athletic Club.
