Minnesota Women Control the Competition at Duke Invite

Barbora Spotakova made her first Gopher impression of the year by placing second in the javelin with a throw of 148-feet, 7-inches, marking the seventh-best throw in school history.

Shani Marks finished fourth in the triple jump, leaping a season-best jump of 41-feet, 1 1/2-inches. Sophomore Laura Bjork made her outdoor season debut with a fourth place finish in the 5000-meter run, finishing in 17:07.36. Senior Jill Field ran a career-best time of 37:15.10 in the 10,000-meter run to place fifth.

Senior Amber Day won both the 100-meter (12.46 seconds) and 200-meter (25.00) developmental dashes, while newcomer Melissa Steele claimed victory in the 400-meter hurdles developmental race with a personal- best time of 1:03.39.

Sophomores Rachel Schutz< /a> and Tahesia Harrigan< /a> placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 400-meter developmental dash with times of 57.23 and 57.60 seconds. Caese Martine finished second in the 100-meter hurdles developmental race with a time of 14.91 seconds.
