Harrity Named Coordinator of Athletic Student Services

GUniversity of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletics and Academic Counseling Director Carol Gruber announced the hiring of Michael Harrity as its coordinator of Athletic Student Services for the Golden Gophers. One of Harrity's main responsibilities will be handling the Maroon and Gold Impacting the Community program, or better known as M.A.G.I.C. As coordinator of M.A.G.I.C., Harrity's duties includes promoting service learning activities, developing new outreach programs with elementary schools, and to enlist and train student-athletes to participate in various service learning programs within the community.

Prior to his arrival at Minnesota, Harrity was the Life Skills Coordinator at the University of Kansas. Harrity was responsible for the Jawhawk Job Network, which aided student-athletes with resume and letter preparation as well as the annual career fair. Harrity also oversaw the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, which comprised of over 30 representatives and 100 active members. Harrity also planned and coordinated Kansas student-athletes to volunteer for more then 20 community outreach program in a year.

Harrity received his bachelor's in May of 1999 from the University of Kansas, while earning a master's degree in May of 2002, also at Kansas. As a graduate assistant, Harrity helped student-athletes develop academic strategies and directed an annual academic award ceremony honoring over 400 student-athletes.
