Vladea and Havelkova Upset Nation's Fourth-Ranked Doubles Team

Vladea Senior Michaela Havelkova and junior Valerie Vladea upset fourth-ranked Debbie Larocque and Maja Mlakar from Arizona, 8-6, to win the doubles title at the Rice Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

In singles action, junior Jeannette Cluskey claimed third place in the "Blue" singles bracket with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Blair Disesa from Rice. In the "Gray"singles bracket, senior Amy Thomas was defeated in the finals by SMU's Nadia Vaughan, 6-2, 6-3. Freshman Nischela Reddy claimed third place with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Allison Leuszler from SMU, 6-1, 6-1. Havelkova won the consolation championship with a 7-6 (3), 6-7 (3), 6-1 win against Long Beach State's Kelly Chan.

The Golden Gophers return to action next weekend at the All-American Tournament.
