Volleyball to Host Michigan and No. 22 Michigan State

Minnesota returns home from a successful 4-0 Big Ten road trip to host Michigan and No. 22 Michigan State. The Golden Gophers take on the Wolverines on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. and the Spartans on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. Minnesota heads into the week in a four-way tie for first place with Penn State, Illinois and Wisconsin. The Golden Gophers are 3-0 against the teams they share first place with, claiming a home victory over Illinois and a pair of road victories over Wisconsin and Penn State. Michigan comes into the week with a 5-3 Big Ten record and is 13-6 overall. Michigan is 3-0 on the road in Big Ten play coming into Friday's match. Michigan State is 4-4 in Big Ten play and 12-6 overall. The Spartans are 1-1 on the road in Big Ten play. Last season Minnesota swept the series from both Michigan and Michigan State. The Golden Gophers handed the Wolverines their only home loss of the Big Ten season. Both matches will be webcaston gophersports.com.
The Golden Gophers are coming off a big three-match span of road wins at No. 23 Wisconsin, Ohio State and No. 15 Penn State. Before last week, Minnesota carried a 17-43 combined road record against those three programs. Minnesota started on Oct. 12 with a road victory over Wisconsin in five games. It marked the second straight year that the Golden Gophers won at Madison, which they had not done since the 1986 and 87 seasons. Minnesota then claimed a five-game match at Ohio State on Oct. 17. It was also the second straight season, the Golden Gophers had won on the road against the Buckeyes. It marked the first time since 1980 and 1982 that Minnesota had won back-to-back matches at Ohio State. The Golden Gophers then claimed their second victory ever at Penn State in three games on Oct. 18. The only other time the Golden Gophers had won on the road against the Nittany Lions was in 2000. It marked the first time that Minnesota had defeated Penn State in three games on the road. It was also the first time the Nittany Lions had lost a home match in three games since Dec. 1, 2001 when UCLA defeated Penn State 3-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
