Risebrough Wins Two Qualifying Matches at ITA Midwest Regional

ReUniversity of Minnesota women's tennis player Lindsay Risebrough won two qualifying matches today at the 2003 ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich. A junior from Edina, Minn., Risebrough can qualify for the main draw of the regional tournament with a win tomorrow.

Risebrough opened play with a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3) victory over Ohio State's Kristin Messmer. She then cruised in a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Viviana Rivero of Toledo. Risebrough will face Gumuscu of Illinois-Chicago tomorrow for the right to advance to the main singles draw as a qualifier.

Teammates Angela Buergis and Nischela Reddy are scheduled to begin doubles play tomorrow in the main doubles draw.

Western Michigan University is hosting the 2003 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Championships on Oct. 23-28, one of eight regional tournaments to take place in late October. The event welcomes nearly 200 student-athletes. The championship doubles match is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 27 while the singles final occurs at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28. The regional champions provide the field for the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Nov. 6-9, hosted by the University of Michigan.
