Women's Tennis Has Bittersweet Day at ITA Midwest Regionals

Buergis and Reddy, the fourth-seeded doubles team, edged Michigan's Delicota/Tipimeni, 9-8, to move on to Sunday's quarterfinals. They face Western Michigan's Girsang/Stoilova tomorrow.
In singles play, Buergis lost 6-3, 6-2 to Tran of Indiana, while Reddy fell to Yung of Northwestern, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Risebrough defeated DePaul's Parashkevova, 6-3, 6-4, but lost to Vastag of Indiana, 6-1, 6-2 in the second round.
Western Michigan University is hosting the 2003 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Championships on Oct. 23-28, one of eight regional tournaments to take place in late October. The event welcomes nearly 200 student-athletes. The championship doubles match is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 27 while the singles final occurs at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28. The regional champions provide the field for the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Nov. 6-9, hosted by the University of Michigan.
