7-1University of Minnesota women's hockey player La Toya Clarke will participate in Team Canada's Thanksgiving Festival Oct. 7-12, held in Dartmouth. Sixty of Canada's top female hockey players are in Dartmouth in preparation for the upcoming 2004 IIHF World Women's Hockey Championship.

The event is for evaluation purposes and represents a first step toward naming Canada's roster for the 2004 IIHF World Women's Hockey Championship, March 30-April 6, 2004 in Halifax, Canada. The sixty players attending the Thanksgiving Festival include 17 members of the 2002 Olympic Champions and 19 of the 20 players named to the 2003 World Championship Team.

Clarke, a senior co-captain from Pickering, Ont., tallied 23 points in 32 games played last season with the Maroon and Gold. The 5-4 forward missed three games with the Golden Gophers last year to play with Canada's Under-22 Team in Germany (2/2-2/15). Clarke returned from her trip and scored six points, three of which were during the WCHA Final Five. Clarke was named to the all-tournament team, leading the Gophers to the championship game. Clarke ranks eighth on Minnesota's career points list (118), sixth on goals (47) and ninth in assists (71).

The Gophers will play an exhibition series with the Oval X-Treme in Calgary Alberta Oct. 10-11. The games are slated for an 8 p.m. start (CST).
