Ryan Potulny, younger brother of senior captain Grant Potulny, was injured in the third period of Minnesota's 7-3 loss to North Dakota last Friday night in Grand Forks, N.D. He played in both games of the series, registering an assist in each contest. For the season, Potulny leads the Golden Gophers with five assists.
Potulny will be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, if decided upon by Potulny and the coaching staff after future evaluation.
"We're extremely disappointed to lose Ryan from our lineup," Head Coach Don Lucia said. "He's still going to be an outstanding player for us. We'll miss him for the bulk of this season, but this is just a short-term setback for what promises to be a great long-term career."
Minnesota continues its four-game road trip in the WCHA this weekend with a two-game series at Wisconsin on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 14-15.
