Janel McCarville Named Big Ten Player of the Week

weJanel McCarville was named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Dec. 1, for her performances in Golden Gopher victories last week over Drake, Texas A&M and Southern California. The 6-2 junior center averaged 22.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in that three-game span. She opened the week with her second double-double of the season with 22 points and 13 rebounds against Drake. Then, en route to earning all-tournament honors in the Junkanoo Jam, McCarville was unstoppable in the paint converting 17 of her 20 field goal attempts in scoring 17 versus Texas A&M and a career-high 27 in the championship game against USC.
The honor is the second of McCarville's career.
Minnesota (5-0), which jumped to No. 9 in the Associated Press National Poll released today, plays host to Creighton on Thursday. The ranking matches the highest AP ranking in school history. The Gophers were ranked No. 9 on Jan. 6, 2003.
