Minneaota Baseball Players to Visit Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare

HealthcaThe University of Minnesota baseball coaches and players will take time out from preparing for the upcoming Dairy Queen Baseball Classic to visit children at the Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare.

Minnesota Head Coach John Anderson, Golden Gopher Pitching Coach Todd Oakes, shortstop Scott Welch, pitcher Nate Broehm, infielder Jon Becker, first baseman David Roach, "Goldy, the Golden Gopher" and the Dairy Queen Mascot "Curly the Cone" will visit patients and families at the Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare on Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The visit is part of Dairy Queen's sponsorship of the February 28 to March 2 Dairy Queen Baseball Classic, which will help raise funds - through the Children's Miracle Network - to support program's and services at Gillette.

Gillette, an independent, not-for-profit hospital and clinics, is internationally recognized for its work in the diagnosis and treatment of children, adolescents and young adults with chronic conditions, including cerebral palsy, brain and spinal cord injuries, complex orthopedic problems, arthritis, neuromuscular disorders, spina bifida and craniofacial anomalies. Since 1897, Gillette, located in St. Paul, has been at the forefront of medical technology, treatment, education and research for children with disabilities.

Children's Miracle Network (CMN) is an international organization that raises funds for and awareness of children's hospitals throughout the United States and Canada. Founded in 1983, CMN has raised $2 billion to help hospitals help kids. In Minnesota CMN benefits children treated at Gillette.

Dairy Queen and the four teams in the tournament will also run an on-field youth clinic for youths ages 7 to 17 on Saturday, March 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The clinic will be conducted by the coaches and players participating in the 2003 Dairy Queen Baseball Classic.
