CaliThe Minnesota baseball team (9-7) dropped its second straight game, as it fell to Sacramento State (12-11) 4-0 on Tuesday, Mar. 18. With the loss the Golden Gophers drop to 3-2 on their nine-game California road swing.

Sacramento State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. The Hornets threatened a big inning when Mikela Olsen led off the inning by reaching on an error and the next two batters drew walks with nobody out. However, junior righthander Craig Molldrem (Boscobel, Wis.) got out of the jam only giving up one run as Olsen scored on a fielder's choice.

The Hornets moved up 2-0 in the bottom of the third on a Chris Kinsey RBI double. Sacramento State added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to make it 4-0.

That was more then enough for Hornet started Marshall Plouffe who pitched a complete game shutout going nine innings, giving up seven hits and striking out six to get the victory to move to 4-1 on the season. Molldrem only gave up one earned run in six innings of work and struck out five. Golden Gopher starting pitchers have only given up two earned runs in the past four games, which has spanned 25 innings.

Minnesota was led by David Roach (Clearwater, Fla.), who was the only Golden Gopher hitter to have mulitple hits, as he went two for four. Minnesota left nine runners on base in the game.

Sacramento State was led by Chris Kinsey who was two for four with a run and an RBI.

Minnesota will take on Sacramento State in the final game of an abbreviated two-game series at Hornet Field at 4 p.m.
