University of Minnesota senior righthander C.J. Woodrow (Maple Grove, Minn.) was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for Mar. 4.

Woodrow, who is 1-1 with a 5.59 ERA and 12 strikeouts in two starts, picked up his first win of the year against No. 14 Notre Dame in the Dairy Queen Baseball Classic on Saturday, Mar. 1. In that game he pitched six innings, gave up one unearned run and struck out eight batters. Woodrow started out the game by retiring the first 11 batters until his perfect game was broken up with one out in the fifth inning.

The win against No. 14 Notre Dame was Minnesota's highest ranked victory since March 20, 2002 when it defeated No. 9 Nebraska 5-3 at the Metrodome. Woodrow has now won Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors on three different occasions, one time each in his sophomore (2001), junior (2002) and senior (2003) seasons.

Woodrow will be back on the mound on Saturday, Mar. 8 at 2 p.m. when Minnesota takes on No. 2 Cal State Fullerton in the second of a three-game series. The first game against the second-ranked Titans will take place on Friday, Mar. 7 at 6:30 p.m. and the final game will take place Sunday, Mar. 9 at 12 p.m. Minnesota will also take on Minnesota-Duluth at the Metrodome on Wednesday, Mar. 5 at 6:30 p.m.
