Minnesota swept the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Valerie Vladea and Amy Thomas defeated Steffi Hoch and Gloria Okino, 8-7 (5), at No. 1 doubles.
Junior Angela Buergis and Vladea led the way in singles as Minnesota took three of the six matches to clinch the team victory. Buergis improved to 3-0 in Big Ten play and 8-2 during the dual meet season with a 6- 3, 6-1 win over Cassie Haas at No. 1 singles. Vladea defeated Hoch, 6- 4, 6-2.
Junior Amy Thomas posted the Golden Gophers' other singles win with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Chelsea Glynn at No. 4 singles.
Arguably the most improved team in the Big Ten Conference, the Golden Gophers have already surpassed their league win total from a year ago. Minnesota resumes action on March 15 with a non-confence dual match at Tennessee-Chattanooga.
