White Beats Maroon 24-6 In Football Spring Game

Dominique Sims and Justin Isom returned interceptions for touchdowns to lead the White Team to a 24-6 victory over the Maroon team this morning in the 2003 Spring Game at the Gibson-Nagurski Football Complex.
The Maroon Team got on the board first with a 32-yard field goal from Ryan Duffy. It capped a drive highlighted by a 52-yard pass from Asad Abdul-Khaliq to Ben Utecht. However, the White team scored the next 14 points. Brandon Hagen powered in for a touchdown from one-yard out to give White a 7-3 edge. On the drive, Benji Kamrath connected with John Kunelius on a 26-yard completion and Hagen racked up 28 yards on the ground.
Dominique Sims picked off an Abdul-Khaliq pass and took it 62 yards for a touchdown to give White a 14-3 lead with 8:36 left in the first half. The Maroon Team added a 21-yard field goal at the end of the half by Ryan Duffy to make the score 14-6 at the break. Abdul-Khaliq connected with Aaron Hosack on a 20-yard play and Paris Hamilton on a 33-yard completion on the drive.
The White Team added to its lead with a 22-yard Tom Mollner field goal at the 12:26 mark. A 22-yard run by Hagen and an 18-yard pass from Kamrath to Jared Ellerson sparked the drive. With 1:07 left, Justin Isom halted a late scoring attempt by the Maroon Team when he snagged a Abdul-Khaliq pass that went off Tony Patterson's hands and returned it 86 yards for a touchdown.
Hagen led all rushers with 93 yards on 18 carries for the White Team. Marion Barber III led the Maroon squad with 30 yards on five carries. Abdul-Khaliq completed 10-of-22 passes for 184 yards for Maroon while Kamrath led the White, completing 5-of-11 passes for 70 yards.
Pat McCarthy led the Maroon defense with 11 tackles while Justin Fraley had eight for the White team.
