Golden Gopher Women's Tennis Defeats Wisconsin 5-2

Minnesota clinched the doubles point as Valerie Vladea and Amy Thomas defeated Linda Mues and Lara Vojnov, 8-4, at No. 1. Angela Buergis and Nischela Reddy earned the Golden Gophers' other win with an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles over Shana McElroy and Katie McGaffigan.
Buergis led the way in singles as she improved to 6-0 in the Big Ten with a 7-6 (3), 6-1 win at No. 1 over Mues. Thomas defeated McGaffigan at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Reddy claimed a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 5 over Vojnov. Brandi Watts defeated Teresa Gonzaga, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.
Coming off a 1-9 record in the Big Ten last season, Minnesota (12-5, 5-1) will battle unbeaten Northwestern tomorrow for first place in the league. The Wildcats are 5-0 in the Big Ten and have won 29 straight conference matches. Tomorrow's match at the Baseline Tennis Center begins at 11 a.m.
