instrumentUniversity of Minnesota Women's Tennis Assistant Coach Kristin Sanderson has been named ITA Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year. In just her second season at Minnesota, Sanderson was instrumental in the Golden Gophers' dramatic turnaround.

A year after finishing last in the Big Ten with a 1-9 record and 6-16 mark overall, the Golden Gophers claimed their first-ever regular-season Big Ten Title with a 9-1 record. Minnesota also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2000 and finished the year with an 18-7 record.

"Kristin's dedication to our student-athletes was crucial to our success this season," head coach Tyler Thomson said. "Her one-on-one work with our players paid off and she is very deserving of this prestigious award."

Sanderson is a former three-time All-ACC performer at Duke University where she helped lead the Blue Devils to four straight NCAA national semifinal matches. Sanderson, an Edina, Minn., native, graduated from Duke with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and history, with a certificate in secondary education.

The ITA national awards will be announced on May 18 in Gainesville, Fla.
