Glen Perkins Named To Baseball America Freshman All-American Team

onMinnesota redshirt freshman pitcher Glen Perkins (Stillwater, Minn.) was named a Baseball America First-Team All-American on Tuesday. Perkins became the first Golden Gopher to claim the Baseball America Freshman All-American honors since Sam Steidl (Alexandria, Minn.) did so in 2001.

Perkins has now been named to the Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America Freshman All-American Teams. He was also named a Second-Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball Magazine.

This past season Perkins was 10-2 with a 2.91 ERA and a school record 117 strikeouts. He also pitched seven complete games. Perkins became the first pitcher in Big Ten history to win all of his conference starts going 8-0. He also added a victory over Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament for his ninth win over a Big Ten team. Perkins lost his first outing of the year to Arizona on Feb. 23, and then ran off 10 straight victories before losing 4-3 to Washington in the NCAA Regional Tournament on May 30. Perkins was also named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was First-Team All-Big Ten.
