Women's Tennis Finishes Season Ranked 29th in the Nation

The University of Minnesota Women's Tennis Team is ranked 29th in the final ITA national rankings. It is the first time since 2000 that the Golden Gophers made an appearance in the season-ending rankings.
Minnesota capped off a remarkable season as the team went from worst to first in the Big Ten. Coming off a 1-9 mark in the Big Ten and 6-16 overall in 2002, the Golden Gophers, led by Big Ten Coach of the Year Tyler Thomson, won their first-ever regular-season Big Ten Championship with a 9-1 record. Minnesota also advanced to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2000 and posted an 18-7 record overall.
The Golden Gophers will lose just one senior in the offseason. Senior Michaela Havelkova was a regular in the lineup during her four seasons and is ranked eighth in school history with 70 career doubles victories.
Minnesota will return a pair of All-Big Ten honorees in Angela Buergis and Valerie Vladea. Vladea will look to become only the second player in school history to be named all-conference in four straight seasons.
