Flynn Hired as Assistant Golden Gopher Rowing Coach

Flynn was an assistant coach at Fairfield University (Conn.) in 2002-03 and the women's assistant coach for the New York Athletic Club team since 1998-2003. Flynn has coached at the national level as well, serving as the assistant coach to the U.S. Lightweight Men's 8 team to a bronze medal in the 2002 World Championships. Flynn will coach at the 2003 Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic, August 4-10, where he will be the head coach for the U.S. Lightweight Men's 4 team. Prior to his work with the U.S men's lightweight teams, Flynn was the freshmen coach at the College of William and Mary in 1994-95.
Flynn earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Cornell in 1994 and received his master of arts degree in English literature in 2000. Flynn was also an English teacher and a curriculum consultant at Regis High School (N.Y.) from 1996 to 2003 before accepting the Golden Gopher rowing position.
"We're very excited to have John as a part of our rowing staff," Davis said. "John brings great expertise to Gopher rowing and we feel that he can help us develop a strong novice program."
