University of Minnesota men's basketball incoming freshman Kris Humphries will be immediately eligible to play for the 2003-04 season, it was announced today by the National Letter of Intent Steering Committee.

"I'm looking forward to being a Golden Gopher this season," said Humphries. "It's a big relief to have the process over and now I can concentrate on playing and being a big contributor my freshman year."

Humphries, a 6-8, 240-pound forward from Hopkins High School, signed a scholarship tender with Minnesota in June after being released from his national letter of intent he signed with Duke last fall. A McDonald's and First Team Parade All-American, Humphries was a consensus top-20 rated player in the country after averaging 25.0 points, 14.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 5.0 assists per game as a senior.

"I'm excited for Kris that the process is complete and he'll be able to play for us this season," said head coach Dan Monson. "He brings a lot to the table and it's a big lift for our program."
