GoldeThe University of Minnesota men's basketball program announced today the signing of Dan Coleman to a scholarship tender. Coleman, a transfer from Boston College, will be eligible to play for the Golden Gophers for the 2004-05 season due to NCAA transfer guidelines.

"We're very excited to have Dan as a part of this program," head coach Dan Monson said. "His versatility fits perfectly into our style of play and he is a great addition to the 2004-05 recruiting class. It will be a great advantage to have him on campus for a year working with our coaches and players."

Coleman, a 6-8, 210-pound forward from Hopkins High School, was a Mr. Basketball Award finalist in 2003 and was named to all-state in 2002 and 2003. Coleman earned three letters in basketball and was an all- conference selection after his junior and senior seasons and was an all-area pick his senior year. He averaged 15 points and 8.0 rebounds while helping lead Hopkins to a third-place finish in the Minnesota State AAAA Tournament. Coleman and fellow U of M freshman Kris Humphries were high school teammates at Hopkins. His uncle, Ben Coleman, was a Gopher letterwinner in 1980-81.

"This is the place for me," said Coleman. "I'm looking forward to playing for the Gophers and wearing the Maroon and Gold. I realized I wanted to stay close to home so my friends and family could see me play. I'm very happy and I can't wait for practice to begin and to help this program achieve greater success."
