Gophers Football Team Ready For Season Opener With Tulsa

Breaking Down Tulsa
Minnesota will open the 2003 football season this Saturday, Aug. 30, at the H.H.H. Metrodome against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Tulsa finished the 2002 season with a record of 1-11. They are led by junior quarterback James Kilian, who played in six games last season, passing for 208 yards with one touchdown. Kilian's primary target will be senior wideout Romby Bryant, who led Tulsa last season in receptions (49), yards receiving (593) and touchdowns (7). On the ground, the Golden Hurricane boast senior Eric Richardson. Richardson totaled 957 yards rushing in 2002 with six touchdowns. Defensively, Tulsa led the Western Athletic Conference in passing defense last season, limiting its opponents to only 202.4 passing yards per game. The Hurricane's defensive unit also finished second in the conference in turnover margin at +6. Outside linebacker Jorma Bailey is Tulsa's top returning tackler from last season. Bailey tallied 71 tackles in 2002, including 7.5 tackles-for-loss.
