Day Two Brackets From Women's Tennis' Gopher Invitational

The University of Minnesota women's tennis team struggled in day two of the season-opening First Annual Gopher Invitational today at the Baseline Center. None of Minnesota's singles and doubles players will compete in tomorrow's championship matches.
In the "David Wheaton" bracket, senior Amy Thomas (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park HS) fell to Zorana Stefanovic of Drake, 6-1, 6-0, and later defaulted in the consolation bracket. Two Golden Gophers were victorious in the "Kevin Garnett" bracket, but lost their semifinal bids. Freshman Lindsay Risebrough (Edina, Minn./Edina HS) dropped Jill Palen of Iowa State, 6-2, 6-1, but lost to Denver's Jenny Trettin, 6-4, 6-4. Senior Brandi Watts (Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer HS) battled in a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 victory over Barbara Kourim of Denver, but ran out of gas to ISU's Lyndsey Palen, 7-6, 6-3.
In semifinal doubles action, Risebrough and Watts lost to Kourim and Yanick Dullens of Denver in the "Prince" bracket.
The First Annual Gopher Invitational includes Denver, Drake, Gustavus Adolphus, Iowa State, Illinois-Chicago, Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin-Green Bay and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
