The Golden Gopher women's soccer team (4-3-1, 1-2-0) was defeated by Michigan State, 4-2, on Friday afternoon in East Lansing, Mich. The Spartans' Tiffany Laskowski scored the first of her two goals in the second minute of the match to give Michigan State the lead for good.
Laskowski increased the lead to 2-0 with her marker in the 28th minute. MSU's Trisha Kenny got into the action with her third goal of the season in the 34th minute.
Michigan State struck again in the second half as Abby Shepherd scored in the 54th minute.
The Golden Gophers attempted to make a late comeback, but fell short. Sophomore Annie Carr earned her first goal of the season in the 70th minute. Andrea Neuman, a transfer from Connecticut, scored her first goal as a Golden Gopher in the 83rd minute, but trailing 4-2, that was as close as Minnesota would get. Becky Dellaria and Amanda McMahon picked up assists in the match.
Minnesota will look to move back to .500 in the Big Ten with a Sunday match at Michigan. Last year, the Golden Gophers shocked the 14th-ranked Wolverines, 4-0.
