Wisconsin Wins Men's Griak Gold Race, Minnesota 12th

Wisconsin placed three runners in the top 20 en route to scoring 89 team points and winning the 2003 Roy Griak Invitational Men's Gold Race title. Brigham Young finished in second with 131 points.
BYU's Kip Kangogo defended his Griak Gold title by covering the 8-kilometer course in a time of 23 minute, 58 seconds. Arizona's Robert Cheseret was second with time of 24:00.
Simon Bairu led the Badgers to the title, coming in third in 24:01. The Other Wisconsin runners in the top 20 were Chris Solinsky in sixth (24:28) and Matt Tegenkamp in 19th (24:43).
Minnesota placed 12th with 320 points. Leading the Golden Gophers were Erik Grumstrup in 43rd (25:06) and Luke Mullranin in 50th (25:12).
"We had some guys like Erik (Grumstrup) and Luke (Mullranin) who ran really well," said Golden Gopher head coach Steve Plasencia. "It's still early in the season but it was good to see some new guys step up."
