Golden Gophers Release 2003-04 Men's Hockey Schedule

The University of Minnesota has released its 38-game regular season men's hockey schedule for the 2003-04 campaign. The two-time defending national champions will open the season in the Maverick Stampede in Omaha, Neb., on Oct. 10-11. The Golden Gophers will face Maine on Oct. 10 in a rematch of the 2002 NCAA Championship game, while host Nebraska-Omaha will face Wisconsin. It will mark the debut of UNO's brand-new 14,700-seat downtown arena, the Qwest Center Omaha.
Minnesota will begin WCHA play two weeks later against Minnesota-Duluth at Mariucci Arena, Oct. 24-25. The home debut marks the 10th anniversary of the opening of the arena in 1992-93. The Golden Gophers will also raise their 2003 NCAA Championship banner vs. the Bulldogs on Oct. 24.
The Golden Gophers will travel to Michigan State and Michigan in the 11th annual College Hockey Showcase on Nov. 28-29. NCAA runner-up New Hampshire, Miami (Ohio) and Princeton will visit Mariucci Arena for the 13th annual Dodge Holiday Classic on Dec. 20-21. Minnesota will face Princeton in the first round at 7:05 p.m. and regardless of the outcome, will play at 7:05 on the second day.
In the 28-game WCHA schedule, the Golden Gophers will not face Colorado College or Minnesota State at Mariucci Arena. Minnesota will not travel to Michigan Tech or St. Cloud State. The Golden Gophers will close out the regular season against St. Cloud State in a rare two game home series, with Saturday's game scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
The 2004 WCHA Final Five will be held for the fourth straight season at Xcel Energy Center on March 18-20, 2004. The NCAA Championship will begin with regional play on March 26-28, at four sites: Colorado Springs, Colo.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Manchester, N.H.; Albany, N.Y. The 2004 NCAA Frozen Four will be played at the Fleet Center in Boston, Mass., on April 8-10.
All home games are scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m., except for the March 6 home game vs. St. Cloud State, which will begin at 2:05 p.m.
