Humphries Named Mid-Season Wooden Award Candidate

JoUniversity of Minnesota men's basketball freshman Kris Humphries was named one of the Top 30 Midseason Candidates for the John R. Wooden Award and All-American Team today. A national poll was conducted and the top 30 candidates were selected based on individual performance and team records thus far in the 2003-04 season.

Humphries, a 6-9 forward from Chaska, Minn., is averaging 22.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. He leads the Big Ten in scoring, rebounding and double-doubles. His 11 double-doubles is tied for the second most in the nation. Humphries and Chris Paul of Wake Forest were the only two freshmen named to the list.

On Tuesday, Mar. 30, 2004, the 10 player Wooden Award All-American Team will be announced. One member of the Wooden Award All-American Team will be selected on Saturday, April 10, 2004 to receive the Wooden Award Trophy as the nation's "Most Outstanding Collegiate Basketball Player of the Year." Players who did not maker the list are still eligible for consideration for the Wooden Award.

The Gophers play host to Michigan State tomorrow night at 8 p.m.
