No. 8 Gophers Set to Battle Wisconsin and Purdue

The Golden Gophers head to Madison, Wis., this weekend to take on Wisconsin and Purdue. The triple duals will be a two-day event starting Jan. 30. Friday's competition will begin at 6 p.m., while Saturday's is slated for a noon start. Wisconsin is ranked 12th in the recent CSCAA poll, while Purdue is receiving votes.
In the Polls
The Gophers have moved up to in the national poll, ranking eighth overall. The Maroon and Gold are the highest-ranked Big Ten team, while Michigan sits ninth overall. Auburn holds the top spot in the country, while Texas is second.
Minnesota's Last Action
Minnesota defeated Big Ten foes Indiana and Iowa in Iowa City last weekend. The Maroon and Gold posted a convincing 172-126 win over Indiana, while adding a 167-133 mark against host school, Iowa. The Gophers won seven of 16 events contested. Terry Silkaitis clocked a time of 44.44 in the 100 free and 1:38:43 in the 200. Both times provisionally qualify Silkaitis for the national championship, while his 100 free was a season best for Silkaitis. He was also a member of the winning 400 free relay.
On the Docket
Minnesota returns home next weekend, Feb. 6-7, at the University Aquatic Center. Friday's competition will start at 6 p.m., while Saturday's is slated for noon. The second day will also recognize the senior class of Adam Apprill, Ben Baumann, Dustin Chalfant, Ben Herdt, Brian Gettelfinger, Ryan Plummer and Diego Urreta.
