Men's Basketball Falls to Wildcats 61-47

Minnesota had a small lead for most of the first half and shot 10-24 from the field. However, they had eight first half turnovers to the Wildcats two. Michael Bauer started off strong and had two three pointers in the opening minutes. The Gophers took their largest lead of the first half with a three-pointer from Brent Lawson just as time ran out to make it 26-22 at the break.
The Wildcats came back strong in the second and took their first lead of the game with 15:40 to remain to make it 33-32. The Gophers trailed the rest of the game. Northwestern scored six straight points with 2:30 left to make the score 61-44 and take their largest lead. The Wildcats had 27 free throw attempts, where Minnesota had only 11. The Wildcats shut down the Golden Gophers from the three point arc, forcing them to shoot just 4-22. Both benches cleared with 1:30 left and the final was 61-47.
Humphries led all scorers for Minnesota with 12 points and also had 12 rebounds. Lawson had a career high of eight points and three rebounds off the bench. Ben Johnson also added eight points and pulled down five boards.
Most of the offense for the Wildcats came from Jitim Young. He shot 10-13 from the field and scored a career high of 31 points. Mohammed Hachad added 13 points and was 5-11 from the field.
The Golden Gophers travel to Madison, Wis. to face the Badgers in a classic border battle on Wednesday, February 4th at 7 p.m.
