Women's Hockey Opens Home Season Friday Night Against SCSU

The Gophers Home Opening Series Includes the Following:
Banner Ceremony, Oct. 15 - The Golden Gophers will raise three additional banners to the Ridder Arena rafters at their home opener against St. Cloud State, Oct. 15. Former Gophers and members of the NCAA championship team Kelsey Bills, Melissa Coulombe and Jerilyn Glenn, along with the rest of the championship team, will be recognized prior to the game. With the recognition, the WCHA regular season, WCHA Final Five and NCAA Championship banners will be raised to commemorate the 2003-04 season.
Salute the Troops, Oct. 15 -Friday's game against St. Cloud State will be "Salute the Troops" night at Ridder Arena. The University of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletics Department will give a $4 coupon to the game (general admission is $8) to any fan who brings a non-perishable or non-food item.
NCAA Championship Handout, Oct. 15 - The first 1,000 fans will receive a 2004 National Championship hankie.
Subway Friday Pack, Oct. 15 - 4 general admission tickets, 4 Cokes (16 oz.), 4 boxes of candy, and 4 free 6-inch Subway coupons. All for only $40.00.

All-Time Series vs. St. Cloud State
The Golden Gophers hold the all-time series at 21-1-0, dating back to 1999. The Huskies' lone win over the Gophers came in 2001 when SCSU defeated Minnesota, 7-6 at the National Hockey Center.
The Last Time
With a 3-1 win over SCSU on March 5, 2004, the Gophers clinched the WCHA regular season. The Gophers scored three power-play goals for the win. Minnesota followed with a 7-5 victory for a two-game sweep. By the end of the series, Krissy Wendell scored six goals and two assists in the win. Of her six goals, four came in the second game, including a short-handed goal. The mark set a school record for short-handed goals in a season (6) and career (9). Wendell was later named the WCHA Player of the Week for her performance.
Gophers on the Power-Play
The Gophers scored eight power-play goals on 12 opportunities for an astounding 67.7 percent against North Dakota. Minnesota's power-play features three U.S. Olympians (Natalie Darwitz, Krissy Wendell and Lynday Wall), a two-time Four Nations Cup and World championship player (Kelly Stephens) and a participant of the Canadian Under-22 Camp (Bobbi Ross). In the sweep over UND, four of the five members scored a goal. Wendell netted three, followed by Darwitz and Stephens with two and Wall with one. The Gophers held a 25.5 clip last year, which led the nation.
