Minnesota will begin its longest stretch of conference road matches on Friday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. when it travels to Indiana. The Golden Gophers will then travel to Purdue on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. Those two road matches are part of a four-match road trip that Minnesota will embark on the next two weeks. The Golden Gophers enter the week ranked No. 2, are 18-2 overall and 7-1 in Big Ten play. The Hoosiers enter the week tied for ninth in the Big Ten at 1-7, and are 7-12 overall. Purdue is seventh in the conference at 3-5, and is 10-8 overall. After this weekend, Minnesota will have reached the halfway point of the Big Ten season. Purdue and Indiana are the last two teams the Golden Gophers play in the first half of conference play. Last year, Minnesota got off on the wrong foot in conference play by dropping its first two Big Ten matches at Indiana and Purdue. Since that point, the Golden Gophers have gone 22-4 in conference play.
Minnesota is ranked in the top five for the ninth straight week dating back to last year's final poll when it finished No. 4. The Golden Gophers are the only team in the nation to be ranked in the top five in all eight polls this season. Washington and USC are tied for second with six weeks in the top five. Penn State and Florida also have each spent five weeks in the top five this year. Minnesota's nine straight weeks in the top five is at least three weeks longer then any teams current streak in the top five. Washington has been in the top five for six straight weeks. Hawai'i and Nebraska have each been in the top five for two straight weeks, while Penn State is back in it after a one-week hiatus.
